The Revo Belay device has been designed to reduce the chance of accidents as a result of the belayer losing control of the rope when a climber falls. The Revo works like a normal belay device, with the belayer taking in slack, and feeding out rope as normal; standard belay technique is required. What the Revo offers is if the rope starts to slide through the belay device at 4 metres per second (the speed of a climber falling) the Revo with automatically lock the wheel inside and stop the rope after roughly 10cm has passed through. This function is automatic and cannot accidentally be overridden. The clever combination of these features makes this the safest belay device on the market. Unlike a regular belay plate, the rope goes around a wheel, so the friction in normal use is much much lower. This makes belaying much easier on long climbs and long days out. Feeding out slack to lead climbers can be done smoothly and quickly, and taking in is slack is easy thanks to the very low friction. Combined with the automatic rope arrest, this makes the Revo ideal for kids too.
